History/Phonetic Structure of Spanish Language
Class Description: Surveys the development of modern Castillian and Latin American Spanish, its evolution as a Romance language, the Roman period, Visigoth and Arab influences, Native American contributions, and its modern language diversity. Describes the phonology and morphology of modern Spanish. Recommended for students interested in teaching Spanish.
Personal Reflection:The History of Phonetic Structure of Spanish Language course was very instrumental to the further development of my mastery of the Spanish language. This course taught students the importance of contributions from other languages, it also demonstrated how the language is a living language, in that, it has the ability to morph and change with the speakers and times. This course helped students understand how vowels and consonants react when placed in different formats with one another, this process of understanding how letters act with one another helped many students with the fluidity of their speech. The material introduced in this course also helped with understanding how to properly enunciate letters, words and phrases. This course helped fulfill the Major Learning Outcome 3 which encompasses the Cultural Knowledge outcome. Through the fulfillment of this class students developed a greater understanding for how the present day Spanish Language has evolved from a compilation of earlier Languages, like Latin, Arabic, and others. Overall, the course allowed the students learn about the evolution and morphology of the Spanish Language and put it into context through assimilating it to current events and they affect the stability of the governmental structure.
