Major Learning Outcome 6 required the completion of an Information-technology literacy and research assessment, also known as GWAR, which was fulfilled by taking the course Regional Art History. This Regional Art History course introduced background information dealing with California's Central Coast rich art legacy. Throughout the course the information provided dealing with art movements from Central California much was learned. The course required students to write a 10 page research paper and present to the class, dealing with a Central Coast art movement, which I found challenging because it required intensive research and effort. Prior to this course I had no idea that the Central Coast was home to such rich Californian history, throughout the course we learned about many different art movements that came through California and influenced many of the artist who lived here. The course also covered much of the history of the Old Del Monte Hotel that housed many famous people while it was in existence. The California missions and the art exposition of San Francisco was also a center for discussion. The course introduced hundreds of art pieces and artists that originated from here in the Central Coast and that gained national and world recognition. The course introduced the importance that black and white photography had to Central Coast artist and artist during the Great Depression in the United States. Overall, I feel like this course helped me develop a greater appreciation for the rich history of the Monterey Bay area. This course fulfilled Major Learning Outcome 6, while at the same time, expanding the knowledge of Regional Art History. This course concentrated on introducing information regarding the history of the Central Coast and by doing this, students developed a better understanding for many of the artistic movements that came and went, that influenced Central Coast art and artists. This course also placed an emphasis on oral and communications skills that were fulfilled through a series of oral presentations and research papers that have been attached as links to this page.
