Comp/oral Practice
Class Description: Continues to build proficiency as defined by the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines. Content-based instruction develops communicative language skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing through readings and discussions of authentic Hispanic cultural and literary texts. For students with two or more years of Spanish or an intermediate level of Spanish language proficiency.
Personal reflection: This Composition and Oral Practice class emphasized on written and oral presentations, the purpose of these methods of teaching was to refine the student’s ability to both write and orally communicate. This course helped students with the overall structure of written assignments and also helped them develop a structured format for orally communicating to large groups. The class stressed the importance of structure as well as information, claiming that a composition is only as good as the research and information provided in the text. Overall, I believe that the students benefited from this course and enriched their writing and oral communicating skills. This course fulfilled the Major Leaning Outcome 2 by allowing students to develop and enhance their writing and structural skills. The course also allowed students to immerse themselves in learning about the importance of the evolution of the Spanish Language; it also demonstrated how the evolution of the Language has allowed for structural enhancements. The course placed and emphasis on structure, but it also stressed the importance of oral presentation and argumentation. These characteristics helped students in further developing good structural and oral organization which enriched the advancement of reading, writing, listening and communicating skills. This course fulfilled the Major Learning Outcome 2, which helps develop communicative language skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing.
